In Football, Winning Teams Are Not Always the Richest
Adithan Arunachalam concludes in “The Relationship Between Finances of a Premier League Club and Its Performance” that the most consistently high-ranking teams in the English Premier League (EPL) tend to be the richest. However, among the rest, he posits that tactical and human factors contribute more directly to a team’s winning record than the money invested in human resources, equipment, and other tools that make athletes better performers. Further, historical examples in the game of football illustrate that tactical and human factors (mindset, team culture, and mental strength) can certainly overcome financial prowess.
